Carine Mansan Chowanek is a French-Ivorian visual artist, based in Côte d’Ivoire in the mythical Quartier France in Grand Bassam. After studying applied arts in Paris and Montreal, she turned to the plastic arts. Carine Mansan then trained at the Academie des beaux arts de Montréal and participated in various workshops with Max Ginsburg and Stephen Early during which she developed her artistic practice alternating between painting and sculpture. Representing scenes of daily life and inspired by the faces that surround her, Carine explores themes related to the intimate to lead a broader reflection on society. Thus, through her personal work, Carine Mansan questions the place of women, making the female condition a recurring subject in her work.
Today Carine Mansan exhibits at the Adama Toungara Museum of Contemporary Art as part of the Memoria exhibition.
